Software Engineer

Job Description:

Candidates for this job will work with other team members to develop software, which will be core to the Umbra Data Dark Side Intelligence knowledge-base. You will be required to develop quality solutions at startup-company speeds primarily in the backend including data acquisition, data analysis, data vetting and data distribution. Under some circumstances you will work on predictive behavior, visualization and user interfaces. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to participate in brain storming best methodologies to address specific needs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Software development and related documentation focused on anti-botnet solutions

Requirements:

  • Background working with anti-malware and related technologies
  • Experience with the C, Perl, and SQL languages required
  • Experience using Linux as a development and deployment platform

Desired Experience:

  • Background working with botnets
  • Strong data analysis skills, e.g. find the needle in the haystack efficiently
  • Experience with Java, JavaScript, PHP, RoR, HTML and CSS a plus
  • Experience building attack-resilient solutions
  • Experience building stealthy vetting solutions

Education:

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent

Correlation Engineer

Job Description:

Candidates for this job will need to have strong data analysis skills, which will be used to identify malicious behavior in a variety of near-real-time and historical data sets. The methodologies will then be reduced to procedures that can be utilized to expand the Umbra Data Dark Side Intelligence knowledge-base. The ideal candidate will be able to write experimental and prototype code, communicate theories and methodologies in both written and verbal mediums, and actively participate in brainstorming sessions with team members. Past experience working with large and diverse data sets is essential, particularly within the anti-malware industries.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Formally define ways to identify malicious online contributors, their data, and associated traits
  • Condense identification work into efficient procedures
  • Contribute toward building our malicious activity knowledge-base

Requirements:

  • Managing and manipulating large data set skills required, both near-real-time and historic
  • Brainstorming via teleconference
  • Fluid communication of ideas/concepts
  • Strong data analysis skills, e.g. find the needle in the haystack efficiently

Desired Experience:

  • Experience dissecting botnet communications
  • Connections within the anti-malware community
  • Programming skills, at least to prototype
  • Understanding of financial, law-enforcement and/or malware industries
  • Degree with minor in statistics and/or criminal psychology

Education:

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent (MS or PhD a plus)
